At Kangaroo Island Spirits we are whisky explorers with a different point of view about the art of making great whisky. We do things differently, we have a crack, and we ignore naysayers.
We said yes where others might well have said no. To the idea of starting a distillery on a sometimes windy, isolated island surrounded by the Southern Ocean, we said… yes! Making whisky in a mild, temperate climate, yes! Taking a surf at lunch time because the wind is blowing in the right direction, yes! Bartering with booze with the locals, yes again!
We’ve discovered that Kangaroo Island, surrounded by the Southern Ocean gives its community, not only its unique attitude, but also its own truly unique whisky making climate.
So what does this mean for a whisky explorer? The uniquely subtle and gentle maturation created by the temperate Southern Ocean summers and mild Island winters delivers masterful extraction of flavour from the cask for a superbly balanced, complex whisky. Unmistakably beautiful and refined whisky from the far flung Antipodean reaches in a temperate island paradise at the edge of whisky making unknown.
